Places to Visit in Cirencester and surrounding Cotswolds

Cirencester Parish Church

Cirencester

Whilst being able to enjoy country walks you are only a 20-minute stroll, or an inexpensive taxi ride, from the historic town centre of Cirencester, capital of the Cotswolds. The main focus of the town is the towering 13th century Parish church funded by the wool trade, which is the largest in Gloucestershire and houses the Ann Boleyn cup of 1535. In keeping with its Roman links there is also a large grassed-over amphitheatre on the outskirts of the town that is well worth a visit or you may like to just wander the towns ancient streets.

The Corinium Museum (re-opened September 2004) houses one of the finest collections of Roman artefacts.

There is a charter market (Mondays and Fridays) and a Farmers market on the 2nd and 4th Saturday in the month.

The town is an important tourism and culture centre, with a craft workshop in a converted brewery
hosting regular antiques fairs, craft markets and furniture auctions.
Giffords circus comes to town in July and September.
